Cuellar said he was not long ago speaking with persons who stay in close proximity to the border and they had been “quite worried” about Title 42 getting lifted.

Earlier in the job interview, Cuellar pointed out that 60% of Border Patrol officers were not even doing the job in the area at the border alone, but at border processing facilities.
“It’s like having a university and we’re only training with 40% of the teachers and the other 60% are not training,” Cuellar stated. “Which is what we are seeing apart from it is really in regulation enforcement. So what we’re looking at is big numbers coming in, the messages are going out to the smugglers and to migrants that on May well 23 you can go in advance and arrive in, and Border Patrol is only performing with 40% of its adult men and women.”
