Norway ski system claims Russians not welcome to contend there

Russian skiers are not welcome to compete in Norway because of “violations of intercontinental regulation and assaults on the Ukrainian men and women,” the Nordic country’s ski federation reported Saturday.

Norway’s phone straight contradicts Global Ski Federation (FIS) plan declared late Friday and arrives days after the winter sport power topped the Beijing Olympics medal table with a report 16 golds. The final men’s medal awarded in Beijing noticed Russian and Norwegian cross-country skiers share the podium in the Bird’s Nest stadium.

The Norwegian plea was also made days ahead of Kvitfjell and Oslo host Planet Cup races in Alpine and cross-place snowboarding upcoming weekend and when the country co-hosts the junior globe championships in Nordic ski disciplines.

“The Norwegian Ski Federation’s message to Russia and Russian athletes is crystal obvious We do not want your participation!” it explained in a statement.

Russia’s military services invasion of Ukraine since Thursday needs “global condemnation and sanctions,” the Norwegian federation reported.

“Sport is not detached from this and are unable to keep on being passive to what is happening now,” the assertion reported, promising to lobby the sport’s world governing overall body.

On Friday, FIS pulled its remaining Environment Cup functions this year from Russia but later authorized Russians to have on competing.

“The athletes will continue on to contend less than their title and the place of Russia, albeit the FIS flag and FIS anthem will be employed in all formal capacities, like ceremonies,” the Switzerland-dependent ski human body stated.

A ban on working with Russia’s flag and anthem was urged Friday by the Worldwide Olympic Committee, which also requested sports activities bodies to shift or terminate events scheduled in Russia.
