Sweden joins Poland in refusing to participate in Russia in Planet Cup qualifiers, urges FIFA to cancel matches

Sweden has followed Poland in its refusal to participate in Russia in a Globe Cup qualifier match up coming month following Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, and it urged FIFA to terminate any game titles involving Russia.

“The unlawful and deeply unjust invasion of Ukraine at this time will make all football fixtures with Russia unachievable,” Karl-Erik Nilsson, the Swedish federation’s chairman, reported. “We hence urge FIFA to make your mind up that the playoff matches in March in which Russia participates will be canceled.”

Poland was scheduled to engage in Russia in Moscow March 24. Sweden will participate in the Czech Republic on the very same day, and the winner of every match will advance to a match to be performed in Moscow March 29.

Poland and Sweden’s actions on Saturday boost their prior stance that they would not perform matches in Russia.
