Ukrainian athletes slam IPC, IOC for ‘choosing bloodshed and profits around principle’ amid Russian invasion

Ukrainian athletes slammed the Intercontinental Paralympic Committee (IPC) on Wednesday immediately after it declared that athletes from Russia and Belarus will be permitted to contend at the 2022 Paralympic Wintertime Game titles in Beijing this month as “neutral” participants. 

The Athletes of Ukraine and World Athlete issued a joint assertion calling out the IPC for its decision not to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, arguing that no matter of their “neutral label,” their presence will allow individuals countries to use the Game titles “as state propaganda.”

“As Russian and Belarusian bombs rain down on the Ukrainian citizens, the Global Paralympic Committee (IPC) today issued a further blow to each Ukrainian athlete and citizen by letting Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete at the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Wintertime Game titles,” the assertion read through. 

“The IPC promises they are acting by forcing Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete underneath a neutral flag. But the Russian flag was previously prohibited from the Paralympics as punishment for a ten years of point out-sponsored doping and info manipulation.”

The Athletes of Ukraine also took intention at the International Olympic Committee (IOC), claiming that the two businesses continued to “select politics more than principle.”

The IOC Executive Board advised that sports activities federations ban Russian and Belarusian athletes on Monday, including that need to they contend, they are not able to do so less than their respective countries’ flags.
