Poroshenko served in office 2014-2019, getting rid of his re-election bid to present-day President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Vitali Klitschko, the latest Kyiv mayor, and his brother, Wladimir Klitschko, a retired professional boxer, also joined the Ukrainian military to combat in opposition to Russia, writing on a LinkedIn post that was critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
