US deploys 6 stealth strike fighter jets to bolster NATO’s eastern flank

The U.S. deployed six F-35 fighter jets from Germany to the Baltic Sea and Black Sea areas to bolster NATO’s jap flank right after Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday. 

The U.S. Air Power F-35 Lightning II aircraft will be supporting NATO’s enhanced air policing missions out of Estonia, Lithuania and Romania. 

“We are going through a dynamic surroundings, and the deployment of F-35s to NATO’s jap flank enhances our defensive posture and amplifies the Alliance’s interoperability,” Gen. Jeff Harrigian, U.S. Air Pressure in Europe – Air Forces Africa commander, reported in a assertion.

It arrives immediately after Secretary of Protection Lloyd Austin purchased about 7,000 added service members to Europe on Thursday, bringing the overall to 15,000 forces who have been deployed in recent times and weeks. 

“We have repositioned other forces inside of Europe to guarantee our Allies and deter Russian aggression against NATO,” Pentagon Push Secretary John F. Kirby explained Thursday night. 

More than 90,000 U.S. company members are now stationed in Europe.

In addition to the 6 F-35 fighter jets, the U.S. is also deploying 20 AH-64 Apache attack helicopters from Germany to the Baltic region and a dozen AH-64 helicopters from Greece to Poland.

Russian troops and tanks invaded Ukraine from the north, south and east on Thursday morning as Russian fighter jets introduced airstrikes on military services. 

As of 10 p.m. ET Thursday, Russian forces were 20 miles outdoors Kyiv, Austin told lawmakers, according to Axios. Explosions could be read in the capital town as Russian forces closed in.

The U.S. is also seeking into means to prepare Ukrainian forces remotely and offer the region with extra protection products, Austin told lawmakers.

Biden slapped Russian banks, state-owned firms, oligarchs and significant-tech sectors with a new spherical of sanctions on Thursday but has frequently emphasised that U.S. forces will not struggle Russia in Ukraine, which is not a part of NATO.

“Our forces are not and will not be engaged in the conflict with Russia in Ukraine. Our forces are not likely to Europe to fight in Ukraine but to protect our NATO Allies and reassure these Allies in the east,” Biden said at a news conference Thursday. 

“As I made crystal very clear, the United States will protect just about every inch of NATO territory with the comprehensive pressure of American energy. And the good news is: NATO is far more united and more decided than ever.”
